The Charles Dickens School in Broadstairs, Kent involves substantial extension and refurbishment of the school, totalling £13.9million.
The improvements to the school offer new zones for Vocational Learning, Creative Learning, Social Sciences, Science and Physical Education through four separate colleges: Cobham, Fort, Gower and Tavistock.
Designed and built to allow for cross-curricular, project based learning, in which subjects can be interrelated and teaching can be focused on the ‘stage not age’ of the pupils, each zone of the school has a large, central, flexible space at its heart, with smaller areas surrounding it.
The school also features a covered courtyard that provides a welcoming space for the students to enter upon their arrival at the school.
