Denne is celebrating reaching the highest point in the construction of a new housing scheme for older people in Eastbourne.
The project, which has been named Cranbrook, is situated at Pembury Road, Langney in Eastbourne and will consist of 62 one and two bedroom extra care apartments. Designed and built to make life easier for over 60s with care needs who want to remain independent in their own homes, the development ensures that residents’ housing, social and healthcare needs are met within private apartments, supported by a professional care team on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The £10 million development, which received a £6 million grant from the Homes and Community Agency, is being constructed on behalf of Eastbourne Borough Council, East Sussex County Council and Housing Association Saxon Weald, who will own and manage the scheme when complete.
The scheme, which will also provide a range of communal facilities including a restaurant open to the community, is the latest in a series of extra care housing projects that Denne has successfully completed for Saxon Weald, including Margaret House in Uckfield.
Graham Brown, Managing Director of Denne, said: “We hope these new extra care apartments in Eastbourne will go a long way to meeting the needs of local elderly and disabled people. These apartments offer a high quality and independent alternative to residential care homes for those who need support with daily living.”
David Standfast, Chief Executive of Saxon Weald, said: "Cranbrook is a great example of how good housing for older people can be - promoting independence while providing valuable support. We're delighted with the progress made so far and thank Denne for doing such a good job."
The project is due for completion in early 2012.
