Rochester Riverside

Rochester Riverside starts on site

Date posted: 3rd October 2011

Denne has started work on a new £8.7 million development on behalf of The Hyde Group, as part of the regeneration of Rochester Riverside.

The planned regeneration of the Rochester Riverside, currently a 74-acre brownfield site, is one of the most exciting and highly anticipated regeneration projects in the Thames Gateway.

Phase one of the development, which is supported by a £4.6 million affordable housing grant from the Homes and Community Agency, will involve Denne delivering a 41 bed extra care home, 32 one and two bedroom flats for rent and shared ownership, and one retail unit

The new homes will be constructed using a traditional timber and concrete frame and will incorporate solar photovoltaic panels on the roof.  They will also be delivered in accordance with the Green Charter. Published by Medway Council and the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA), the charter aims to ensure that Rochester Riverside exceeds the latest government regulations on sustainability, including requirements on water usage, carbon emissions, sustainable building materials, recycling and waste management.

All of this means that the project is targeted to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 and a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating.

“We have worked tirelessly to get the design, materials and features right before the contract was signed,” said Mike Finch, Assistant Director of Development at Hyde. “People will be able to move into the new homes as early as December 2013”.
