Margaret House

Margaret House extra care apartments successfully handed over

Date posted: 3rd May 2011

Denne, part of the Leadbitter Group, has completed the construction of 39 extra care apartments in Uckfield, East Sussex, for Horsham-based housing association Saxon Weald.

Margaret House in Lealands Drive is a £6 million development offering a range of apartments and extra care services for residents requiring support with daily living, together with communal facilities including a restaurant, lounge activity room and laundry.

Saxon Weald owns and manages more than 5,700 properties, including retirement and shared ownership homes, across Sussex and Hampshire. Margaret House was part-funded with a grant from the Homes and Communities Agency.

A number of sustainable construction methods were implemented in the scheme, most notably a biomass boiler to provide hot water and heating. A green sedum roof was also incorporated.Additionally, the scheme’s design avoids the need for internal kitchen windows, corridor ventilation and dry risers, resulting in cost savings for Saxon Weald.

Graham Brown, Managing Director, Denne, said: “Margaret House is another example of how the successful partnership between ourselves and Saxon Weald has resulted in superior quality living accommodation for the over 55s. These apartments will provide each individual with access to tailor-made care services and will enable them to stay independent in their homes for as long as possible.”

Margaret House has been completed to programme and is one of a number of projects being fulfilled by Denne for Saxon Weald: Downlands Court in Peacehaven was handed over in 2009, and two more schemes in Rustington and Eastbourne are currently under construction.
