Denne have commenced work on a £2.6 million contract to undertake a second phase of work at the Miramar care home, set within a stunning seafront location in Herne Bay, Kent.
This major expansion programme further strengthens Denne’s relationship with Signature Senior Lifestyle, who own and operate the home and for whom Denne completed phase one of the development in 2009.
Offering luxury one and two bed apartments as well as penthouse suites, a dedicated dementia community and exemplary care quality, the Miramarcare home aims to set a new standard for retirement living in the area.
To help fulfil this vision, phase two of the expansion programme will involve the demolition of the old Miramar wing and the development of 24 apartments together with communal areas, including a lounge, spa bathroom, refreshment area and staff room. The new two-storey extension will connect to the existing building, created during phase one in 2009.
Planned and designed by PRP architects, the architecture of phase two is designed traditionally to reflect the original Miramar building, which began life as a hotel in the 1900s. Construction methods are traditional with masonry walls, widespan floors and a trussed roof structure. The new extension will provide a striking contrast to the first phase, which is much more modern in appearance, offering a range of contemporary styled apartments.
“Graham Brown, Managing Director, Denne, said: “We are delighted to have been asked to undertake the second phase of this outstanding care facility. It is a testament to the professionalism and skill exhibited by our team that the client has appointed Denne to continue the improvement programme that we started in the first phase of this redevelopment.”
